GREAT PLACES TO TREAT YOURSELF

A Taste of Southwold

There’s a great selection of delis, cafes, pubs, restaurants and takeaways in Southwold, from good old fish and chips to fine dining. Or just fill your face with ice cream and waffles! For the pubs and restaurants, pre booking is essential during peak season, but you may get lucky with a cancellation if you give them a call last minute. Don’t worry if you can’t book anywhere - there’s a wide selection of fish and chip restaurants/take aways and some great delis and street food too. You can always dine in at Number Fifteen, or al fresco in the garden if you can’t get a table! Some of our favourite eateries are below…

Fish and Chips

There’s a fabulous choice when it comes to getting your holiday fish ‘n’ chips fix! The Little Fish and Chip Shop on East Street is run by the Sole Bay Fish Company and all fish is freshly caught off their very own boats. It’s also close enough for you to eat your catch on the beach without your chips getting cold! Mark’s Fish and Chip Shop on the High Street is just a five minute walk from Number Fifteen - call ahead to pre order and jump the queue for your takeaway, or eat inside their cute restaurant. If you are down by the harbour, Mrs T’s Fish n Chips is a real gem – outside seating with beautiful views of the harbour (they also serve Adnams beer on the side).

Ice Cream and Waffles

You certainly won’t be wanting for sweet treats during your visit! Visit Loaded  for waffles and ice cream shakes, or choose from a great  selection of ice creams or mouth-watering donuts at the award winning Harris and James gelato makers. Our family favourite is the Southwold Special from either the North Parade or Gun Hill Beach Kiosks. The Harbour Kiosk also serves ice creams and other sweet and savoury snacks, so you can treat yourself after a nice walk over the sand dunes.

Pubs & Restaurants

Southwold is famous for its Adnams Brewery, which has a countless selection of pubs in the town and the surrounding villages, serving delicious food and drinks. Head to The Swan for a sumptuous afternoon tea, or visit The Crown for a fabulous Sunday roast. There’s also a great selection of independent eateries, whether you’re looking for fine dining at Sutherland House, gourmet wagu burgers (and more) at The Sail Loft, want to try the outside dining pods at Coasters, or enjoy local freshly caught fish at The Sole Bay Fish Company, down by the harbour.

A few of the local cafés and restaurants also offer a takeaway service and there are also Chinese and Indian takeaways in Reydon who will deliver to your door (menus are provided at the cottage for your convenience).
